The Historian’s Problem

“It’s a semi-true story
Believe it or not
I made up a few things
And there’s some I forgot.
But the life and the tellin’
Are both real to me
And they run like the rain
All the way to the sea.”

— Jimmy Buffett, Semi-True Story

  2. Ah, yes, more words of wisdom from the King of the Parrotheads! Also, let’s not forget my personal favorite description of the “Historian’s Problem”: “If it’s not true, it should be. . . .”

  3. Lyrics good enough to get the next Nobel. Also my idea of `creative history’, or at least one’s personal past. Another reason for us to record the stories of others and submit them to Oral History projects.
